Jon Ford is a geologist with over 25 years of experience in geoscience with BGS as well as world-class mining companies. In his current role as director for BGS National Geoscience, he leads BGS’s programme of geological mapping and modelling to provide up-to-date geological data and knowledge that supports effective decision-making around resource management, environmental regulation and infrastructure development.

Prior to graduating from the University of Leicester, Jon worked in the UK coal industry in northern England. The early parts of his graduate career were spent working as an exploration geologist in Latin America. Jon has continued to work internationally, with a current focus on critical mineral resources in the ‘Lithium Triangle’ region of Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
