The International Geological Congress (IGC) is held by the (IUGS) every four years. The congress began in 1878 and was last held in the UK in 1948. The IGC is a global event, welcoming earth scientists from around the world and across academia, industry, government and other sectors.

Our vision for Glasgow 2028 is ’Geoscience delivers a sustainable and equitable future’. Glasgow has a fantastic track record of hosting global events, such as COP26 (2021), and a rich geological history. Glasgow is an ideal venue to share not only breaking scientific advances but also lessons from history. Our congress vision maximises equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility through its planning and delivery, and we welcome participants from all parts of the world.

The 38th IGC will run in late summer 2028. Bids to host are submitted to the IUGS by the end of March 2024, with a decision made at the upcoming 37th IGC (Busan, Republic of Korea) in August 2024. We hope you can support our bid!
